Taxi Drivers Hold Demonstration in Front of DPRD Building

Dozens of taxi drivers incorporated in the Jakarta Transportation Front (Frontjak) staged a demonstration in front of the City Council (DPRD) building, Jalan Kebon Sirih, Central Jakarta, Monday (6/9). This action is form of their protest against Ancol Taman Impian management that charges retribution for as much as Rp 20,000 to every taxi that enters Ancol area.

Ancol management should not blindly seek benefit and apply unlawful rule. Taxi driver without passenger should not be charged with entrance fee to Ancol area

Those taxi drivers assessed that the retribution applied by Ancol Taman Impian management since a month ago is discriminative and only profiting a few large taxi operators in the capital city.

“Every taxi must pay Rp 20,000 per entrance. But, it does not apply to Blue Bird and Ekspress taxis. This is a transportation monopoly practice. Ancol as a recreational site, which most of its shares owned by Jakarta Provincial Government, should not apply discriminatory policy that solely benefiting two major taxi operators in Jakarta,” stressed Frontjak Coordinator, Rudi, while orating in front of the City Council building.

According to him, Ancol management deliberately applies discriminative policy without paying attention to the rights of citizens who want to enjoy Ancol without burdening ticket entrance fee.

Ancol management should not blindly seek benefit and apply unlawful rule. Taxi driver without passenger should not be charged with entrance fee to Ancol area. That discriminative rule is burdensome for taxi drivers,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Joint Labor Presidium Secretary, Sultono, added that similar fate is also experienced by small traders operating in Ancol area. To be able to trade in that recreational site, they are charged with tax amounting millions of rupiah every month.

“Jakarta Provincial Government must not close their eyes with the condition of taxi drivers and small traders who are trying to meet daily needs in Ancol,” he asserted.
