Street Vendors Raid in Tanah Abang Ended Chaotic

Ahead of fasting month, Central Jakarta Satpol PP begins control the street vendors in Tanah Abang area, Central Jakarta, Monday (6/9). Unfortunately, the raid that ran smooth without protest at the beginning suddenly turned into chaos.

The chaos started when two street vendors fought when being controlled by the officers on Jalan KH Mas Mansyur. Seeing their colleagues secured by the officer, other street vendors got angry and broke Satpol PP’s car window.

From the start we have tried to be persuasive. We also have warned the street vendors many times, but they fought back. That’s why we decided to secure two of them,” stated Head of Central Jakarta Satpol PP, Yadi Rusmayadi.

House Execution in Pulogadung Ended Chaotic

The two street vendors are secured because they acted as provocateurs. They were then handed over to Tanah Abang Sector Police. Besides securing two protesters, Satpol PP also seized dozens of carriages and stalls belong to street vendors.

According to Rusmayadi, the raid against street vendors occupying sidewalks and roadsides will continuously be conducted, thus the citizens would feel comfortable when shopping in Tanah Abang Market. In the future, his party will remain do monitoring by deploying 80-100 officers in Tanah Abang area.
