Heavy Rain, Jalan Cipinang Cempedak Landslide

Heavy rain that poured the capital city on Friday (6/13) caused landslide on Jalan Cipinang Cempedak, Jatinegara, East Jakarta. As a result, residents’ activities become disturbed because the road cannot be passed.

We’re targeting all works to finish in a week. The drainage will be widened to two meters and concreted to prevent another landslide

The landslide occurred around 5 PM. Initially, water came out from roadside and not long after it spurted and inundated the road. Allegedly, the box culverts planted in the middle of the road were clogged by trash. Moreover, there are many utility cables in the culverts’ end that clogged the trash.

Chief of RT 02/03, Cipinang Cempedak Urban Village, Helmi (44), disclosed that although the landslide occurred on Friday, related party repaired it on Monday (6/17).

Eroded by Water, Sentiong River Dam Collapsed

“The box culverts should have made straight to the edge of Jalan DI Panjaitan. In reality, they were made turn to the main drainage which end has many utility cables. Thus, trash got clogged and water broke the road asphalt,” he uttered, Tuesday (6/17).

According to Helmi, incident like this has frequently happened since five years ago. But, the handling is only by patching potholes. The peak occurred on last Friday when strong water current in the culverts made the asphalt road landslide.

Responding this matter, Head of Waterways Maintenance Section for East Jakarta Water Management Public Works Sub-Department, Ahmad Yazied Bustomi, stated that his party directly repaired the drainage as well as the landslide road. Especially for the drainage, it will be widened to two meters initially one meter.

We’re targeting all works to finish in a week. The drainage will be widened to two meters and concreted to prevent another landslide,” he said.

As for the box culverts which asked by the locals to be widened, Bustomi admitted that it cannot be fulfilled. This is because if the drainage clogged, Jalan DI Panjaitan would be flooded.
