20 Officers Standby at Intersections Dispelling PMKS

Anticipating the rise of people with social welfare problem (PMKS) especially beggars during Ramadan, West Jakarta Administration holds sympathetic operation to disseminate and appeal the public not to give alms to beggars or any other street PMKS.

Head of West Jakarta Social Department, Ika Yuli Rahayu, said in West Jakarta, there are four spots or red light intersections that become the focus of this sympathetic operation namely Tomang, Grogol, Cengkareng and Kalideres red light intersection.
"These four locations are regions prone to PMKS, especially beggars, ranging from children to adults. It is like a tradition near Ramadan until Eid Fitri that they increase prevalently," said Rahayu, Saturday (6/21).
Raided PMKS Will Celebrate Eid in Social InstitutionAs a preventive measure and to dispel them, West Jakarta Social Department has specifically prepared 80 social pillar workers to be deployed at those four locations. Later, every day during Ramadan, 20 officers will be placed at each location.
"Later, they (officers) will conduct the expulsion to PMKS and also disseminate an appeal to the public and motorists not to give anything to PMKS," uttered Rahayu.
In the future, this program is hoped to be an affective way to dispel PMKS and make the people understand and if they want to provide any assistance, they can give it directly to the appropriate target, such as social institutions and others.
"If people do not want to give, then the PMKS also think not to beg on the streets. But they’ll be back home," said Rahayu.
Until now, her party still routinely conducts PMKS raid. From January to mid-June 2014, there were already 700 PMKSs netted who now occupy the social institutions to get guidance.
"Essentially, in order to give comfort and humility for Muslims who are fasting, we will intensify PMKS raid," added Rahayu.
