Children Friendly Park in Central Jakarta Damages

City park at RT 02/04, Jalan Taman Tanah Abang III, South Petojo, Gambir, Central Jakarta, which has been proclaimed as Children Friendly Park since last May, has been damaged by the Central Jakarta Sports and Youth Sub-Dept project.

The damage occurred in the futsal, basketball and volleyball court. Without clear aims and objectives, the field area of 205 square meters are dismantled and lifted with cement castings.

As an impact, the grass planted at the edge of the park is damaged up to 15 meters. Lately known, the project is done without the approval of the Central Jakarta City Park Sub-Department as an asset manager.

Parks in East Jakarta to Be Equipped with Water Tanks

Head of Central Jakarta Park Sub-Department, Jansen Saragih, admitted that he was disappointed with the construction of the sports facilities at futsal and basketball court in this park.

"Child Friendly Park is damaged by ports facility construction project in our field which is still in good condition," told Saragih to beritajakarta.com, Saturday (6/21).

Saragih deplored the attitude of Sports and Youth Sub-Dept working on a project in the park area without coordinating with his staff. Moreover, an area of 1,339 square meters has just newly inaugurated as Child Friendly Parks Central Jakarta on last May. "The project has been stopped, but contractor was grumpy. He damaged the grass at the edge of our park as long as 15 meters," he explained.

Related to that, Head of Central Jakarta Sports and Youth Centre, Ahmad Zulfi, said that the sports field construction project at the Child Friendly Park on Jalan Taman Tanah Abang III is done based on the request of residents who want sports facilities.

"The project is based on the request of the residents. They asked for sports facilities, and it happens that there is a space, then we use," he said.

He admitted that the project was protested by the City Parks Sub-Department, so the development was discontinued.

"We've canceled the continuation of the project because we also do not want to be a polemic," Zulfi concluded.
