Fire Destroys 150 Houses in Muara Baru

A massive fire razed 150 houses in a densely populated on Jalan Muara Baru, Kebun Tebu, RT 16/17, Penjaringan Urban Village, Penjauringan Sub-District, North Jakarta. There was no casualty reported in the incident, but 500 people or about 150 households had to be evacuated.

Locals tried to put out the blaze, but they failed

Fire broke out around 11.20 PM from one of citizens' houses. Then the blaze quickly grew up and spread to next houses made by triplex and wood. As many as 34 fire trucks deployed to the scene and managed to control the situation within 2 hours later.

Atikah, (40), a local resident told fire came out from one of her neighbors and then quickly grew up until destroying hundreds of other houses. "Locals tried to put out the blaze, but they failed," she expressed, Saturday (6/28).

Head of North Jakarta Fire and Disaster Handling Sub-Department, Frans Hodden Silalahi stated until this afternoon, firemen are still cooling down the fire location to prevent unwanted things. Allegedly, the cause of the fire is triggered by electricity short-circuit.

"Around 1 PM, we managed to put out the fire, and now we are still cooling down the scene," he explained.

Penjaringan Sub-District Head, Rusdiyanto disclosed to lighten the victims' burden, emergency response measures have bee prepared in accordance with the standard operating procedures or locally called as protap

"We're preparing the temporary shelter. We will coordinate with related units to provide refugee camps, toilet, food, and healthcare service from Sub-District Community Health Center (Puskesmas)," he said.
