Tens of Trees in Gunung Sahari Cut Down for JEDI Project

To realize the project of Jakarta Emergency Dredging Initiatives (JEDI), Jakarta Public Works Department cut down tens of trees alongside Jalan Gunung Sahari Raya, Kartini, Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta. All this time, Gunung Sahari area is one of flood-prone areas which became limelight by Jakarta Provincial Government.

Solihin, (42), a local citizens disclosed that those trees were cut down about a week ago. Whereas, he hoped related unit to cancel their plan to cut down trees because it makes surrounding areas look dry. "As far as I know, there will be JEDI project here (Gunung Sahari area)," he told.

Head of Jakarta Parks and Cemetery Department, Nandar Sunandar admitted some trees along Jalan Gunung Sahari Raya affected the JEDI project. "Indeed, we cut down some trees, but I forget its amount," he stated.

BPKP and Inspectorate Supervise JEDI Project

According to him, those trees had to be cut down for greater interest. The same policy had also conducted for construction project of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT).

"We do it for greater interests," he exclaimed.
