Potholes Rampant, Basuki Threatened to Dismiss Public Works Dept. Head

Head of Public Works Department's performance is unoptimal. Whereas he knows there are found many potholes at several roads, but he says it could not be repaired and should wait for tender first. He is supposed not to do tender. That's why I will dismiss him

Acting Jakarta Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama once again questioned the performance of Head of Jakarta Public Works Department, Rudi Manggas Siahaan. This is because a Zero Hole program initiated by Jakarta Provincial Government last year was deemed unsuccessful, because potholes are still rampant on some points and very endangering road user.

"Head of Public Works Department's performance is unoptimal. Whereas he knows there are found many potholes at several roads, but he says it could not be repaired and should wait for tender first. He is supposed not to do tender, considering we have included hotmix and concrete in e-catalog. Even the fund for asphalting is available. That's why I will dismiss him," he asserted, Wednesday (7/2).

Basuki asserted Jakarta Public Works Department should be able to cope potholes in the capital. Moreover, Jakarta has many hotmix companies with good quality.

"There should be no potholes in Jakarta. Why? Because the hotmix and concrete companies are a lot here, likewise with smart people. But why potholes are still found?," he questioned.

One of those potholes are found on Jalan Meruya Utara, Meruya Utara Urban Village, Kembangan, West Jakarta. Along such road, precisely in front of West Jakarta Population and Civil Registration Sub-Department office unti Jalan Meruya Raya junction, is damaged severely and prone to traffic accident. Similar condition is also spotted in the tunnel of Pasar Minggu towards Tanjung Barat, South Jakarta. Its asphalt has peeled off and has not been repaired. 

While in East Jakarta, another pothole can be found on Jalan Raya Lapangan Tembak, Cibubur, East Jakarta. It is already last a year, there has been no repair from related unit and cause inundation.
