Jakartans Surprised By Earthquake This Afternoon

Earthquake which is centered at 7.24 south latitude and 105.9 east longitude or around seven kilometers towards southwest of Lebak, Banten, is also felt by Jakartans. Many employees panicked and rushed off from the office. 

Earthquake happened for 50 seconds in Jakarta

Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Board (BMKG)s Earthquake and Tsunami Center Head, Riadi said, earthquake strength reached 6.1-magnitude due to tectonic plates collide. 

"This is tectonic earthquake at a depth of 62 kilometers.The plates are collide and causing a great power," he said through telephone line, Tuesday (1/23).

But he ensures this earthquake causes no tsunami.

"Until now, there is no report for aftershocks. Earthquake happened for 50 seconds in Jakarta. So, we suggest Jakartans not panic," he mentioned.
