Earthquake Resistance of MRT Building Is Up to 8.7 SR

The earthquake resistance of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) building is improved from 7 becomes 8.5-8.7 Richter Scale (SR). It is in accordance with SNI No. 1726/2012 on Earthquake Resilience Planning Procedures.

PT MRT Jakarta Construction Director, Silvi Halim disclosed, based on SNI 2002, the earthquake resistance is only set up to 7 SR. But, with the new rule in 2012, it is improved up to 8.5-8.7 SR.

"MRT earthquake resistance has been improved. It is based on SNI/2002 with consideration of earthquake every 500 years and the magnitude of the earthquake is 7 SR," she stated, Thursday (12/15).

International Standard Applied for MRT Operational

She added, with the new rule, the earthquake consideration happened every 100 years and 1,000 years. Thus its resistance is also increased.

"Why it is changed, because it is seen earthquake that happened thus the design must by strengthened," he finished.

By so, it will influence on budgeting that issued. His side also requested for additional fund as much as Rp 2.566 trillion. 

It is proposed to Japan International Corporation (JICA) as the lender. PT MRT Jakarta has submitted it to the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas).
