Indeks Demokrasi DKI Turun ke Peringkat 5

City’s Democracy Index Declines to Fifth Rank

The 2013 Jakarta’s Indonesian Democracy Index (IDI) declines to 71.18 points of 0-100 scale from previously 77.72 points in 2012. As a result, Jakarta’s position also declines from top position in 2012 to fifth rank in 2013. The reason behind these declines is the numerous anarchic demonstration acts staged in the capital city.

The decline of democracy index makes Jakarta’s position decreases from top to fifth rank under East Nusa Tenggara, North Sulawesi, Yogyakarta, and Bali

Head of Jakarta Central Statistics Board (BPS), Nyoto Widodo, said that although Jakarta’s IDI declining, democracy level in the city is still in medium category (60-80 index) out of good (> 80 index) and bad (< 60 index).

“The decline of democracy index makes Jakarta’s position decreases from top to fifth rank under East Nusa Tenggara, North Sulawesi, Yogyakarta, and Bali. We’ll report this result directly to Acting Jakarta Governor,” he stated, Monday (7/7).

May, Inflation in Jakarta Reached 0.05 Percent

According to Widodo, BPS used data collection method by using four sources of reviews, namely local newspapers, document reviews (bylaw, governor regulation, et cetera), Focus Group Discussion, and deep interviews.

Meanwhile, the decline was influenced and measured from three democracy aspects, namely civil freedom (increases to 88.72 points from 88.11 points in 2012), political rights (decreases to 62.52 points from 7.44 points in 2012), and democracy institutions (decreases to 74.69 points from 88.81 points in 2012).

Widodo stressed that democracy improvement in Jakarta is not only government’s responsibility, but legislative, executive, judicative, and the citizens as well.
