May, Inflation in Jakarta Reached 0.05 Percent

Along May, the inflation in the capital city reached 0.05 percent. The inflation was affected by six expenditure groups which have increasing index and one group decreasing index or deflation.

Jakarta Statistics Central Board (BPS) recorded that the six groups increasing index were instant food, drink, cigarette, and tobacco for as much as 0.25 percent; health 0.16 percent; food ingredient 0.12 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel 0.08 percent; textile 0.08 percent; as well as education, recreation, and sports 0.03 percent. Meanwhile, the group decreasing index was transportation, communication, and financial services for -0.19 percent.

Head of Jakarta BPS, Nyoto Widodo, stated that the commodities which gave quite big donation to inflation were chicken broiler, housing rental, chicken broiler egg, orange, collared shirt, Muslim clothing, lunch box, train rate, et cetera.

High Inflation Rate, City Poverty Increases

“ The inflation in May was caused by the rising price of instant food, cigarette, and tobacco sub-group tobacco and alcohol ,” said Widodo in Jakarta BPS office, Monday (6/2).

Moreover, Widodo mentioned that the group of food ingredients in May reached 120.85 percent and 120.70 percent in April, thus inflation happened for 0.12 percent. While instant food, drinks, cigarette, and tobacco in May reached 113.81 percent and the month before 113.53 percent, which led to 0.25 percent inflation. Particularly for health index in May reached 106.68 percent and the month before 106.51 percent, so the inflation was 0.16 percent.

For education, recreation, and sports in May was 103.12 percent and the month before 103.09 percent, thus the inflation was 0.03 percent. The last is transportation, communication, and financial services index that reached 112.94 percent and a month before 113.15 percent, until this group has deflation of 0.19 percent.

“Meanwhile, the three sub-groups do not have index change, namely communication and transportation and shipment, transport facilities and supporting, and sub-group of financial services,” uttered Widodo.
