Muara Baru Modern Fish Market Expected to Be Tourism Destination

Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan hopes Muara Baru Modern Fish Market (PIM) which is located on Jl. Muara Baru Raya, Penjaringan, North Jakarta can be a new tourism destination in Jakarta.

There is so many historical values in this place

According to him, that fish market had been there since 1846 and used as fish auction. The market has a unique construction because its shape is similar to hexagonal. Even most residents called it similar to fortress or castle.

"There is so many historical values in this place. Not only for trading activities, but we want it to become a tourism destination," he expressed while attending Muara Baru PIM groundbreaking, North Jakarta, Thursday (2/8).

Fish Auction Revitalization Completed

He explained, Jakarta Provincial Government has a big hope to make the fish market to be equal with those which are located in Sidney or Japan.

"This can be a new icon and Mrs. Susi (Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries) also hopes it will not become the last fish market project in Jakarta," he conveyed.

He added, fish market existence can build up communication culture between economy actors. Because sometimes that culture is gone in economy activities.

"We project this market to be a new facility for social interaction, not only for financial interaction," he affirmed.
