Grogol Riverbank Colonized by Street Vendors

A 2-kilometer-long Grogol Riverbank that passes Jalan Kemanggisan Raya towards Grogol is crowded with illegal parking and semi-permanent buildings owned by street vendors. This condition has damaged the parks and fences, as well as road dividers around the riverbank.

We have warned them and demolished some illegal buildings along Grogol River, but it does not bring deterrent effect. But we'll control them again

"Most of those vendors are local citizens. As a security officer, I can only warn them," said a security officer of Kemanggisan Market, Somad, Friday (7/11).

Besides eroding soil and damaging fences, there are also waste piles in the garbage carts and have not been transported by janitors. As a result, the place looks dirty, chaotic, and spread rotten smell. Surely, it is very disturbing road user and locals.

Responding on this matter, Vice Head of Palmerah Urban Village, Raditian disclosed that the Grogol Riverbank is his authority, yet most have entered Kemanggisan Village area.

He admitted that all this time, his side has warned the vendors to immediately move and look for a more viable place for trade, but they ignored it.

"We have warned them and demolished some illegal buildings along Grogol River, but it does not bring deterrent effect. But we'll control them again," he asserted.
