S. Jakarta Declares ODF in Two Urban Villages

South Jakarta declares Open Defecation Free (ODF) in Selong Urban Village and Melawai Urban Village.

Today we declare that Melawai and Selong Urban Villages are free from open defecation

South Jakarta Mayor, Tri Kurniadi stated, this movement  is done based on Health Ministry Regulation (Permenkes) No. 3/2014 about ODF.

"Today we declare that Melawai and Selong Urban Villages are free from open defecation. We hope other urban villages can follow this," he said at Selong Puskesmas, Wednesday (3/14).

City to Develop Communal Systems For Sanitation

He explained, this community-based health program aims to achieve total sanitary conditions by changing behavior through community empowerment.

"In order to change the behavior, we try to improve continuous sanitation access with involvement of various society elements," he mentioned.

Acting South Jakarta Health Sub-dept. Head (Plt), Iwan Kurniawan said, ODF movement is done in five activities. Those are to stop defecation in open environment, get used to wash hands using soap, manage drinking water and food for household, manage household waste, and manage household liquid waste water.

"October 2017, South Jakarta has committed and this is the realization," he conveyed.
