16 Polling Stations in Five Municipalities to Hold Re-voting

Jakarta General Election Commission (KPU) finally decides that 17 polling stations (TPS) spread in five municipalities will hold re-voting as recommended by Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu).

Initially, winning team of president candidate number one filed for re-voting in 5,841 polling stations. However, Bawaslu only recommends 16 polling stations

“Initially, winning team of president candidate number one filed for re-voting in 5,841 polling stations. However, Bawaslu only recommends 16 polling stations,” stated Head of Jakarta KPU, Sumarno, to beritajakarta.com, Friday (7/18).

The 16 polling stations are located seven in North Jakarta, four in Central Jakarta, three in West Jakarta, and one each in East Jakarta and South Jakarta.

“Province level ballots recapitulation will be conducted on Saturday night until those 16 polling stations held the re-voting,” he told.

Sumarno also admitted that Jakarta Bawaslu was late sending the re-voting recommendation letter because previously in a plenary meeting there had been discussion there would be no re-voting held.

“Indeed it’s late. The re-voting is supposed to be held before ballots recapitulation in urban village level finished, not prior to province plenary meeting. But okay, we’ll do it anyway, although it takes an enormous stamina,” he uttered.

According to Sumarno, the re-voting mechanism is the same to the voting done on last July 9.

“The re-voting is held in accordance to the rules, which is at the latest D+10 after July 9. Starting this afternoon, polling committee (KPPS) spreads invitations to all voters,” he informed.

For this re-voting, as many as 13,000 additional ballots are needed. On the other hand, Jakarta KPU only has 1,000 back-up ballots.

“We have coordinated with Banten KPU and West Java KPU to meet the additional ballots needed,” said Sumarno.
