East Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-dept. Head, Mustajab mentioned, dredging should be done to prevent inundation in Ujung Menteng and Pulogebang Urban Villages.

Cakung River Drain Cleaning Started

"Cakung River still can be functioned though it cut off by KBT channel. We need to dredge it because of silting," he explained, Thursday (9/20).

According to him, dredging starts from Palad Pulogebang to Jalan Raya Penggilingan. Its length is about 1,240 kilometers. This project is started since early August and it is targeted to complete in early December.

"It is done to anticipate inundation or flood in Ujung Menteng, Pulogebang, and Penggilingan Urban Villages," he added.

Cakung River is dredged with depth for around 1.5-2 meters. Before dredging, its depth was around one meter due to sedimentation.

Total river's width is 16 meters. But it remains 12 meters since its left and right sides are used for sidewalk.
