Cargo Vessel Burned Outside Tanjung Priok Port

A cargo vessel burned on the waters outside Tanjung Priok Port, Friday (8/1), at 5.20 PM. There is no casualty reported in this incident.

All 20 crews are safe and we’re currently questioning them

Based on the information gathered, the vessel was sailing from Ujung Pandang, South Sulawesi, and scheduled to dock in Tanjung Priok Container Port. Unfortunately, the vessel carrying 20 crews was on fire when approaching the port, precisely 1.2 miles away.

Head of Tanjung Priok Port Office, Captain Arifin Soenardjo, said the fire originated from the vessel’s kitchen. In short time, the fire spread to stern and other rooms until entire vessel on fire.

“Extinguishing efforts are conducted by deploying three fire vessels. All 20 crews are safe and we’re currently questioning them. However, the captain of the vessel cannot be interrogated much now because he is still in shock,” he stated, Friday (8/1) night.
