Basuki Wants All Citizens to Have Bank Accounts

Vice Jakarta Governor Basuki T Purnama admitted having trouble in controlling the social aid given to the citizens. Often times the aid given is overlapping. Many citizens pretended they have not received the aid although the fact they have received it. Because of that, Basuki urges all citizens to open bank accounts.

I’m thinking that by 2015 all citizens must already have bank accounts. Later, all social aid, alms money, and everything must be given to bank transfer. No more envelopes

“I’m thinking that by 2015 all citizens must already have bank accounts. Later, all social aid, alms money, and everything must be given to bank transfer. No more envelopes,” he stated, Wednesday (8/6).

According to Basuki, the difficulties in controlling social aid distribution happen because the benefactors prefer to distribute the aid directly to foundations without going through bank transfer.

Basuki Wants Alms Collection Done Through Bank Transfer

“My question, is it possible the same kid being registered in some places? It is possible. So, the kid could get (aid) several times, then? Not likely, because the aid could be kept alone by the (foundation) management,” he uttered.

Therefore, Basuki asks DKI Bank to review his plan on making bank accounts for all citizens. If DKI Bank could not afford it, Jakarta Provincial Government will give chance to other state-owned (BUMN) banks, like BRI and Mandiri, to do so.

“Here is what I’ve been after for. If they (DKI Bank) could not do it, I’ll handover the task to BRI and Mandiri. If you like, one account for each kid, because it is impossible for that kid to have several account, right,” he said.
