North Jakarta Government and Jakarta Environment Dept.'s Water Cleanliness Management Unit (UPK) plans to use water hyacinth to improve river water quality. Sentiong River, in Sunter Jaya, Tanjung Priok, will be used for this pilot project implementation.

North Jakarta Deputy Mayor, Ali Maulana stated, water hyacinth will be used to improve river water quality in Jakarta in line with river naturalization concept initiated by Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan. It is also hoped to improve water ecosystem quality.

He explained, later the Water UPK is about to arrange water hyacinth in a box thus its growth can be controlled. Water hyacinth planting will be started next week by spreading seedlings.
"After planting, we will move to test water quality in laboratory periodically," he conveyed.
