IRTI Monas Market Traders Control Plan Criticized

Jakarta Provincial Government’s plan to emptying the temporary relocation place of 339 IRTI Monas Market guided traders is being criticized by people who are joined in Peduli Monas Community. The community assessed that the controlling effort would create friction and resistance from the traders because they feel their livelihood is being stopped.

If the controlling still carried out, of course the traders would fight. They cannot arbitrarily accuse all IRTI Monas traders as retailer agents of illegal street vendors before they do investigation and verification

“If the controlling still carried out, of course the traders would fight. They cannot arbitrarily accuse all IRTI Monas traders as retailer agents of illegal street vendors before they do investigation and verification,” stated Chairman of Peduli Monas Community, Abdurrahman, Monday (8/11).

According to Abdurrahman, the most reasonable way to eliminate illegal street vendors in Monas is by imposing maximum fine to visitors or by holding frequent socialization on the dangers of buying food and beverage from the street vendors.

Not Having Jakarta ID Card, 31 IRTI Monas Traders Crossed Out

Menawhile, Jhon Dira (48), a representative of IRTI Monas Market traders, admitted has not known yet his trading location to be controlled.

“I haven’t received information from Central Jakarta Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises and Trade (KUMKMP) Sub-Department,” he told.

But if the controlling was realized, Dira makes sure that 339 guided traders will fight because all this time they have followed all regulations when trading.

“We will absolutely fight,” he asserted.

Dira assessed that emptying their trading place is not a solution to eliminate illegal street vendors. On the other hand, it will kill their livelihood.

“If this place being evicted, where would we gain money to eat? We can be illegal street vendors (eventually),” he expressed.
