KPKP Dept. Intensifies Food Monitoring

Food inspection is conducted routinely to provide food security to consumers

Jakarta Maritime Agriculture and Food Tenacity (KPKP) Dept. continues to intensify food monitoring ahead of Christmas and New Year.

Jakarta KPKP Dept. Head, Darjamuni stated, food monitoring is conducted in markets, shopping centers, production centers and importers in Jakarta.

"Food monitoring is conducted routinely to provide food security to consumers. But we do it more often ahead of religious holidays, including Christmas," he said, Thursday (12/13).

He operates six laboratory cars to check food ingredients from agriculture, livestock, and fishery products. Food monitoring is focused on food that contains of hazardous substances such as formalin, borax, rhodamine B, and metanil yellow. 

"There are six teams with nine to ten personnel for each teams who are routinely inspect food in all Jakarta areas," he conveyed.

He explained, food producers who violate the regulation will be sanctioned from reprimand, revocation on distribution permit, to criminal punishment.

"This year, we allocate Rp 8 billion to conduct food monitoring," he added.

Currently Jakarta KPKP Dept. has owned three laboratories to support food monitoring. Those are laboratory for agriculture products in Cibubur, laboratory for livestock products in Bambu Apus, and laboratory for fishery products in Pluit.

"All three laboratories have been accredited," he mentioned.
