Mampang River Will Be Widened to 20 Meters

The narrowing of Mampang River becomes one of the reasons why flood that often hits Mampang area, South Jakarta. The three-kilometer long river that stretches through Mampang Prapatan Sub-District is narrowed because its bank is packed with illegal buildings. Thus, when rain pours, the river cannot accommodate more water which eventually overflows onto the streets and residents’ houses.

At this time, Mampang River is only as wide as 7-8 meters. Later, it will be 20 meters wide. We have socialized about this demolition since a week ago and no residents turned it down

For that reason, South Jakarta Administration demolishes hundreds of illegal building on Mampang riverbank, Monday (8/18). Afterwards, the river will be normalized by the dredging its mud and expanding its width.

“At this time, Mampang River is only as wide as 7-8 meters. Later, it will be 20 meters wide. We have socialized about this demolition since a week ago and no residents turned it down. Their responds are all positive,” stated Head of Mampang Prapatan Sub-District, Fidiyah Rokhim.

300 Illegal Buildings Around Mampang River Demolished

There are about 300 hundreds illegal buildings, which occupied by 372 families, being demolished. They were spread in three urban villages, namely Tegal Parang, Pela Mampang, and Mampang Prapatan.
