Jakarta Public Service (JPS) Executive Director, Mohammad Syaiful Jihad said that public transportation modes in Jakarta have been built and integrated which of aiming to minimize the volume of personal vehicles which are one of the biggest contributors to air pollution.
"We certainly cannot just criticize the bad air quality in Jakarta. In fact, everywhere, we often use private vehicles. Surely we need an action together," he expressed, Sunday (7/7).
Vital Strategies Involved to Handle Air Pollution in JakartaInstitutionally, the Jakarta Provincial Government has cited the use of public minivan through Gubernatorial Instruction No. 150/2013 on the Use of Public Vehicles for Officials and Employees under Jakarta Provincial Government.
"In this instruction, there is an instruction to ban personal vehicles on the first Friday of each month, still valid and implemented until now," he explained.
He furthered that Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan needs to make a new gubernatorial instruction or regulation in order to push people use public transportation.
"It should not just focus on employees or officials but also private office workers. Moreover its policy can be done more than once a month," he told.
It is a must as most private vehicle users are also from outside Jakarta.
"Transportation improvement in Jakarta already enter the three best in the world. I think we need a regulation to encourage people to use public transportation," he stated.
