Officers Cut Illegal Water Pipe Connections in Muara Baru

As an effort to press water loss or Non Revenue Water (NRW) level, joint personnel from water companies PAM Jaya and PT PAM Lyonnaise Jaya (Palyja) as well as the police held operation in a settlement at Tembok Bolong, RT 01/17, Muara Baru Urban Village, Penjaringan Sub-District, North Jakarta, Friday (8/29). In this operation, they cut residents’ illegal water pipe connections.

“This operation is also held to improve our services to the customers who more have rights to enjoy clean water,” stated Head of PT Palyja Corporate Communication and Social Responsibility Division, Meyritha Maryanie.

According to Maryanie, in this operation they found eight illegal water pipe connections from PVC pipes in the size of 11 millimeters. In addition, they officers also cut HDPE pipes which length was around 750-1,000 meters.

Illegal Clean Water Use Found in Muara Angke

“Those eight illegal water pipe connections were connected to some houses and buildings. In fact, in one of residents’ houses, we found four water pumps that flown water to some houses around it,” she disclosed.

Last year, Maryanie continued, PT Palyja found 387 illegal water pipe connections done by non-customers and 3,109 cases of water stealing (illegal use) done by the customers. While this year, as many as 725 illegal water pipe connections were found along January-July.

“From those findings, the amount of water managed to be saved is about 430,000 m3 (cubic meters) or equal to the use of 14,300 customers,” she uttered.

For that, Maryanie asks for support from related parties to conduct firm action in resolving water stealing case comprehensively.

“Because of illegal water pipe connections, the groundwater becomes polluted and the customers are experiencing short in water supply,” she told.
