Odd-Even Expansion Brings Positive Impact for Air Quality Improvement

Jakarta Provincial Government's efforts to reduce traffic jams in the capital by expanding the odd-even traffic policy have a positive impact on improving air quality.

It triggers the government and locals to jointly improve air quality

This policy managed to reduce particulate matter (PM) 2.5 to 18.9 percent based on the data results in the HI Roundabout Fix Station Air Quality Monitoring (SPKU).

Previously, the average particulate matter touched 2.5 or 63.29. After the odd-even system applied, the amount decreased 51.29 or 18.9 percent. While the data of Kelapa Gading (SPKU), recorded that dust particles decreased from 2.5 into 13.51 percent. 

Jakarta to Have 53 Green Parks

Jakarta Environment Agency Head, Andono Warih said that the odd-even system showed significant contribution in creating better air quality listed in Gubernatorial Instruction No. 66/2010 on air quality control issued by Mr. Anies to strengthen the measures to curb air pollution.

"It triggers the government and locals to jointly improve air quality," he expressed, Tuesday (8/20). 

He added that regional working unit (SKPD) will work hard in accordance with the main tasks and functions in supporting air quality improvement.

"A lot of efforts we have such as, controlling factory or industrial chimney emissions, greening, etc," he stated.
