Anies Hopes Jakarta to Be a Pilot with Sustainable Economic Social and Environmental Growth

The city administration, Germany Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) and Paramadina University cooperate on holding workshop social and ecological market economy at Jakarta City Hall, on Monday (8/26).

the workshop is not just hearing but discussion activities

The workshop with theme "Market-Based Economic, Social and Ecological" was participated by 100 people, consisting of representatives of structural officials, Jakarta BUMD officials and sub-district level unit heads, as well as entrepreneurial companions.

This seminar presented Marcus Marktanner, a social market economist from Kennesaw State University, USA and assistant for the city's economic and finance division, Sri Haryati.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan revealed that the theme was in line with the thinking of the nation's founder, Mohammad Hatta, namely, Pancasila Economics which is not only concerned with the efficiency of the market to create economic growth, but also illustrates the concept of social justice as the purpose of the Homeland stands enshrined in the 1945 Constitution.

"When people ask why is there a republic of Indonesia. The answer is that social justice for all citizens has been achieved. Fair here doesn’t mean philosophy but aspects of policy making. How to take policies that lead to economic growth, but bring justice? And now we live on earth that has limited capacity, as it is fair and sustainable. That's why the workshop theme took Market-Based Economic, Social and Ecological whereby market is in the form of welfare growth and social for justice, ecology for sustainability," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID press release.

He furthered that it was easy to formulate policies based on one aspect. But if those three concepts are arranged together, there is knowledge and experience that must be studied specifically. Because of that, after the workshop, he hopes that participants will be able to review the ongoing policies and adjust them to create economic growth that is in tandem with social justice, and environmental sustainability.

"We hope that my hopes and ideals in Jakarta will be an example of a system where the policies are based on such principles. Oriented to the growth of the market economy, social justice and ecological. But, Insya Allah, we can do it together through this workshop," he explained.

He also told that many German experts and academics were invited to the United States to teach the concept of a just social economy. He then says policies that focus on economic growth in the end markets less attention to fairness and sustainability, thereby reaping problems later on.

"So the workshop is not just hearing but discussion activities. Give your question and answer, as well as share your solution how to overcome the city problems using the media they give," he uttered.

KAS Director for Indonesia and Timor Leste, Jan Senkyr said, the Germany managed to apply the concept of a social market economy and ecology for more than seventy years and became a role model for many other countries. So, KAS was committed to disseminating the concept in addition to democratic education and the rule of law as its main activity program.

"We've been working in more than 100 countries, including the Indonesian government for 50 years. Partnership with Paramadina University has been carried out since 2012 and has produced eight postgraduate courses on social market economics," he stated.
