North Jakarta Supports Cleaning Activity Held at Kapuk Mangrove Park

North Jakarta Administration supports and participates in cleaning event held at estuary area of Mangrove Natural Tourism Park, Pantai Indah Kapuk, North Jakarta, this Saturday (9/21).
The point of this event is not only processing the waste, but also change the behavior of the community itself
This cleaning is initiated by Lions Club which collaborates with Jakarta Government, Ministry of Environment, and Gerakan Pramuka Kwarda DKI Jakarta to commemorate World Clean Up Day (WCD) 2019.
North Jakarta Mayor, Sigit Widjatmoko mentioned, it is an honor for Central Jakartans to have Kapuk Mangrove Natural Tourism Park that is chosen as the center of this cleaning activity.
Maritime Festival This Weekend, Be There!According to him, this cleaning will be continued since it gives positive impacts, especially in building citizens habit and behavior.
"We have told the Lions Club Indonesia Governor that we want to collaborate. The point of this event is not only processing the waste, but also change the behavior of the community itself," he explained.
One of North Jakarta's challenges, he continues, is to change fisherman's lifestyle and habit for not littering.
Thus, he assessed, this activity can be used as educational campaign that builds people's awareness and responsibility to preserve the marine ecosystem.
"We have the regulation, but giving them education is the key. While tourism area is chosen to hold this activity because we can clean the waste while enjoying the nature," he stated.
Jakarta WCD Committee Leader, Liana said, her side not only holds this event at Kapuk Mangrove Natural Tourism Park, but also at Taman Palem Mall, West Jakarta; Pulogadung Sub-district Office, East Jakarta; and Mampang Prapatan Sub-district Office, South Jakarta.
"We hope this activity can support government's program to preserve the environment, especially in DKI Jakarta," he closed.
