Fire Guts 4 Fishing Boats in Muara Angke Baru

Fire destroys four fishing boats at dock 3 of Muara Angke Port, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, Saturday (9/6) night, around 7 PM. There were no casualties reported in the incident, and its fire managed to be extinguished about 9 hours after the incident.

Head of Operation Division, North Jakarta Fire and Disaster Handling Sub-Department, Muchtar Zakaria said fire is allegedly triggered by electricity short-circuit on one of the engines of the Kakap Merah boat. Fire then enlarged and spread to three other boats, namely KM Bintag Sejahtera, KM Nissan 29, and KM Pulau Makmur.

"We received a report around 7.20 PM. Allegedly, fire is triggered by electricity short-circuit from one of boats' engine," he expressed, Sunday (9/7).

Those burning boats then pulled as far as 3 kilometers from the dock to the north thus fire does not spread to other boats. "To avoid another fire, we pull the boats into the sea. As many as 8 fire trucks and boats deployed to put out the flames," he told.

Head of Muara Angke Port, Tonny Suharya disclosed that situation could be controlled around 4 AM. "Tomorrow Monday, we will summon boat owners. Based on our data, fire has gutted four boats, and thus far its loss is still being recorded by officers in the field," he stressed.
