DPRD Supports City to Provide Healthy Sanitation Facility

Jakarta Council (DPRD) supports Jakarta Government, both through Regional Apparatuses Organization (OPD) and Regional-owned Enterprises (BUMD) to provide healthy sanitary facilities in Jakarta.

River water can be used as raw water resources

Elected Jakarta DPRD Vice Chairman from Demokrat faction, Misan Samsuri said that according to data from Jakarta Deputy for Spatial Land and Environment Division, there are at least 475 thousand people or 117 thousand families in Jakarta who don't have septic tank.

Other data from Institute for Sustainable Futures, University of Technology Sydney about Indonesia Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Sector Brief mentioned that 80 percent of Jakarta people don't have septic tank in their house.

"So, most feces produced from each house are thrown directly to the ditch or river," he asserted, Thursday (10/10).

In this chance, his side supports Jakarta Government's plan to build 1,000 subsidized septic tanks, especially in densely populated area.

"1,000 septic tanks program will be realized by Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Department together with PD. PAL Jaya. Its budget has been submitted through KUA-PPAS of City Budget (APBD) 2020," he informed.

According to him, healthy sanitation is needed in order to avoid rivers in Jakarta to be polluted by e-coli bacteria.

"River water can be used as raw water resources. But, it must be feasible and has certain standard. Through healthy sanitation, it can be realized," he added.

One of Jakarta Councilors, August Hamonangan stated, healthy sanitation has been summarized through Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD).

"Not only facilitating residents who don't have septic tank, but residents should be socialized about the importance of healthy sanitation," he conveyed.

PD. PAL Jaya President Director, Subekti stated, if his side can realize 1,000 subsidized septic tanks program

in 2020, his side will improve it into 5,000 septic tanks in the next year.

"We calculate the overall cost to provide septic tank is around Rp 3-9 million. But we are still surveying resident's ability to determine amount of subsidy that later will be regulated through Pergub," he explained.

Previously, it is reported that West Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-department plans to build 21 septic tank this year that can be accessed by residents for free. It will be provided on Jalan Sekretaris, RT 15/07, Tanjung Duren Utara Urban Village, Grogol Petamburan Sub-district. According to plan, this project to finish in the end of October.
