Let's Come to See Betawi Cultural Festival at the Houses of Parliament

The Indonesian Regional Representatives Council (DPD) is cooperating with the Jakarta Tourism and Culture Agency to hold the Betawi Cultural Festival titled "The Other Side of Jakarta" in the Nusantara V Lobby, MPR/DPR/DPD RI Building Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, which falls on October 10 and 11.

It is a tribute to the host of Jakarta to welcome members of the council members consisting of all elements from DPR/ DPD/MPR that have just been inducted. It is open to the public starting at 8 AM to finish.

Indonesian DPD Chairperson La Nyalla Mattalitti said the festival is a form of appreciation for government programs, especially the Jakarta Provincial Government related to the preservation of Betawi culture.

"We should give our appreciation and good support for this festival," he expressed, after Betawi Cultural Festival opening, Thursday (10/10).

His party pushed regulations and policies in using regional potentials, as well as will collaborate with the regions in the context of preserving regional cultural values.

"We will fight for encouraging affirmations and policy interventions that support the preservation of healthy and dynamic cultural values and support local wisdom," he told.

Jakarta DPD Senator Sylviana Murni expressed she is committed to strengthening nationalities and realizing national goals and strengthening the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) whose basis is the strengthening of the region itself with its local wisdom.

"If we can preserve our local wisdom as in Jakarta is Betawi, this means strengthening the pillars below, thus the Republic of Indonesia will be intact and its foundation is really strong," he explained.

The parliament building, which is generally identical with diplomatic spaces and strategic matters by newly appointed members of the council, will change this week with a touch of culture.

For five years serving as a representative of Jakarta people in the DPD, she is optimistic to continue to support the preservation and development of Betawi culture.

"Not only in the parliament building, but also in 267 urban villages and 44 sub-districts in Jakarta," she uttered.

As for the information, the Betawi Cultural Festival will be enlivened with various activities such as photography workshops, photo exhibitions, photo contests, Betawi dance performances, batik demonstrations, embroidering demos, puppet making demonstrations, fashion shows, children's colossal dance performances, Betawi culture shows and 34 provincial fashion parades.
