Commission D Invites Citizens to Keep Water Channels Clean

The Legislative Council (DPRD)'s Commission D Secretary Syarief emphasizes the community to contribute in maintaining the cleanliness of water channels (micro and connecting channels), rivers and reservoirs.

Not only that, the regional apparatus organization (OPD), he added, must also work together to increase awareness and take anticipatory steps against potential flooding.

"Our city is still prone to flash floods from the upstream. We need to do preventive efforts, including ensuring the readiness of water pumps, both stationary and mobile," he explained.

Thus far the efforts made are pretty good, but they still need to be improved for optimal results.

"Currently garbage carried from upstream to the Manggarai Sluice Gate when has started clean, considering I have conducted a direct visit to the field in the Cipinang River flow area." he told.

Yet some spots are still superficial. This also needs dredging immediately.

As for the information, the Jakarta Water Resources Agency has done preventive efforts, such as making absorption wells, rainwater harvesting, onsite detention, dredging towards 17 rivers and five reservoirs.

Then they have built 987 spots of wells in five areas by targeting 1,000 spots in 2019, the sustainability of the 2.2-km long Kamal River National Coastal Development, naturalization and revitalization of river and reservoir development in 10 locations.

They also have prepared the latest technologies, including 133 mobile pumps with a capacity of 28,512 m3/s, 457 stationary pumps in 165 locations with a capacity of 489.01 m3/dt, 231 sluice gates, amphibian excavators for dredging reservoir, combi jetting for suctioning drainage canals, automatic water level recorder (AWLR) in 21 locations and 103 CCTVs.

There are also alerting 7,889 personnel plus 260 heavy equipments and 461 dump trucks.
