Jakarta Provincial Government invites South-South Knowledge Exchange delegations from tens cities in Asia and Africa to visit Jatinegara Barat Public Housing (RSJB), East Jakarta.

It is a good opportunity to come here and see it directly the Jatinegara Barat Public Housing community empowerment

Jakarta Regional Development Planning Board (Bappeda)'s Health, Empowermen, Child Protection, and Population Control Sub-department's Staff, Livia Angelissa explained, the purpose of this visit is to invite delegations to see and learn directly the new public housing that is provided for people who were relocated from the riverbanks.

"This public housing is a part of city planning and our effort to provide Jakartans a decent place to live," she conveyed, Tuesday (12/17).

According to her, big cities in the world have similar problems regarding the need for handling and providing adequate housing for residents as well as to organize the city environment properly.

"Through this activity, we want to learn together and share our experience. We hope we can obtain feedback to overcome housing problems in each cities," she added.

World Bank Country Director Program Leader of World Bank, Philip E. Karp conveyed, RSJB is very unique, because its location is not far from Ciliwung River.

"It is a good opportunity to come here and see it directly the Jatinegara Barat Public Housing community empowerment," he said.

According to him, social life of people who live in landed and vertical housing are very different. But, it is important for them to be adapted to their new environment and create positive situation and relationship with the others.

"I think Indonesia has a strong tradition in society. People in public housing also have a nice personality," he explained.

Meanwhile, Jatinegara Barat Public Housing Management Unit Head, Yanti expressed her gratitude for this visit.

"It is an honor to be able to participate in sharing our experience with the delegations of World Bank and South-South Knowledge Exchange," she conveyed.
