Jakarta Vice Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama revealed the concept of construction of giant sea wall in South Korea is very different with the giant sea wall which will be built on the northern coast of Jakarta. Its conclusion was obtained after he visited South Korea for three days to attend the opening of the Asian Games 2014 in Incheon.
The concept of Giant Sea Wall in Jakarta and South Korea is very different. Jakarta's concept wants to build a dam becomes water reservoir. I think this does not make sense after I saw the same project in South Korea
"The concept of Giant Sea Wall in Jakarta and South Korea is very different. Jakarta's concept wants to build a dam becomes water reservoir. I think this does not make sense after I saw the same project in South Korea. In South Korea, they only use the sea wall as a breakwater," expressed Basuki, at City Hall, Monday (9/22).
South Korea Ready to Contribute in Construction of Giant Sea WallHe disclosed giant dike as long as 33.9 kilometers in Saemangeum had been built as water reservoir, but it failed. "All the dirty water goes into water reservoir thus it cannot be used, even for farmland," he stated.
He furthered, concept project in South Korea can still be implemented in Jakarta. "The sheet pile in Saemangeum for instance, where it can be replicated as mitigation way, like flooding and tidal wave," explained the former regent of East Belitung.
He added that cooperation with South Korea will still be done, especially for the design of Giant Sea Wall.
"Yes, they (South Korea) already have experience. So, South Korean people from the time of his ancestors had been building a breakwater. Considering the wave is very extreme," he told.
But for the working techniques, Basuki prefers to imitate the concept in Rotterdam, Netherlands. "Actually, I prefer to use the concept in Rotterdam," he said.
