40 Animal Slaughterers Undergo Competency-Based Training

They get a competency certificate. So, they will also be able to compete in the halal industry

Some 40 participants of ruminants and poultry slaughterers are participating competency-based slaughterer training programmed by the Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Agency, which has been held since February 4 and will be end on February 7.

It aims to increase the understanding and knowledge of mosque managers about the procedures for slaughtering qurban animals that are good and right in accordance with Islamic law, hygiene sanitation, and animal welfare in the process of slaughter.

"The training materials start from the process of preparing equipment and how to slaughter animals to obtain halal meat and thoyib according to the guidelines of the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI)," expressed Jakarta KPKP Agency Head, Darjamuni, Thursday (2/6).

There are training aspects, namely understanding religious aspect in slaughtering animals; occupational safety and communication; work coordination, hygiene, sanitation and animal welfare; theory of preparing slaughter equipment; and slaughter technique competency theory.

"This training also includes a competency test," he explained.

By doing so, hopefully, participants could slaughter animals according to Islamic law, sanitary hygiene, and animal welfare.

"They get a competency certificate. So, they will also be able to compete in the halal industry," he stated.
