Dishub Pushes Digitization of Parking Management for Local Revenue

Jakarta City Council Commission B Chairwoman, Nova Harivan Paloh encourages the Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) to strengthen digitalization efforts in parking management. This step is deemed important to optimize the potential for parking revenue.

Digitalization is needed

"So far, we have seen that there are still many potential parking fees lost, especially in illegal parking locations. In the future, a comprehensive evaluation is needed to better optimize the management of on-street and off-street parking," he expressed, at City Council building, Tuesday (7/1).

He explained, the City Council was also discussing parking issues through the Special Parking Committee. One of the main recommendations was to promote the digitalization of the parking system and modernize the role of parking attendants in the field.

"Digitalization is needed. Parking attendants must also be provided with training to operate modern systems. We can no longer rely on manual systems with tickets that are prone to leakage," he asserted.

According to him, the digital system allowed parking transaction data to be directly connected to the government data center. By so, transparency and accountability of revenue could be monitored in real time.

"If the system is digital, we can know the daily revenue from parking in zones A, B, or C. This will greatly assist the Transportation Agency in monitoring and evaluation," he explained.

In response to the proposal to use CCTV to monitor on-street parking, this could be a future step. However, the current main priority was to ensure digital infrastructure and human resource training for parking attendants.

"The most important thing now is to prepare the digital tools first, then the ticketing staff's training," he stated.
