Pertengahan September, kawasan Sabang Dipasang Parkir Meter

Meter Parking Imposed on Jalan Sabang Next Week

The policy of meter parking will be imposed by Jakarta Provincial Government starting next week on Jalan Sabang, Menteng, Central Jakarta. If it went well, the same policy will also be imposed in residential areas.

We want to test on Jalan Sabang. If it’s successful, we go to residential areas like in Kelapa Gading, Pasar Baru, and Juanda

“We want to test on Jalan Sabang. If it’s successful, we go to residential areas like in Kelapa Gading, Pasar Baru, and Juanda,” stated Jakarta Vice Governor Basuki T Purnama, Tuesday (9/23).

According to Basuki, the parking meter machines have arrived from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and to be installed next week. At this time, Jakarta Provincial Government is demolishing the sidewalks along Jalan Sabang for the policy’s preparations.

“We also have socialized about meter parking policy through banners installed on Jalan Sabang, telling that the area will be installed with parking meters,” he told.

The purpose of this policy is to eliminate illegal parking and prevent parking levies’ money from being collected by thugs. To resolve the leaks, Basuki promised to recruit parking attendants and pay them high.

“The important thing is to handle the parking attendants. If we gave them twice of UMP (province minimum wage), their livelihoods would approximately the same (with illegal parking attendants’ income). The crucial thing is that the levies to unruly people above must be stopped. If we held the lower people, it should be better,” he expressed.

Basuki disclosed that the parking meter machines are provided by private party through investment method. Later, the private party as the machine owner will share profit with Jakarta Provincial Government as the landowner.

“Jakarta Provincial Government only asks 30 percent of share from it, while the rest 70 percent will be used for operational costs and to pay the parking attendants,” he uttered.
