37 Street Vendors’ Stalls Around Cikini Station Demolished

Tens of street vendors’ stalls around Cikini Station, Central Jakarta, are demolished by Menteng Sub-District Satpol PP, Wednesday (9/24). This operation is the umpteenth time done because the street vendors kept setting up new stalls despite they had been controlled many times.

In total there are 37 stalls demolished around Cikini Station. Most of the street vendors were selling food and drinks

Head of Menteng Sub-District, Bondan Dyah Ekowati, said there are 37 stalls demolished because they were disturbing public order and taking the rights of pedestrians. Those stalls were built along Jalan Pegangsaan Timur and Jalan Pegangsaan Barat, Pegangsaan Urban Village.

“In total there are 37 stalls demolished around Cikini Station. Most of the street vendors were selling food and drinks,” she stated.

According to Ekowati, the operation runs smooth. Tens of Satpol PP personnel deployed demolished the stalls one by one and then loaded the stall debris to two trucks belong to Satpol PP and Jakarta Cleanliness Department to be transported to Satpo PP warehouse in Cakung, East Jakarta.

“We have socialized about this operation since two days ago and warned the street vendors not to trade in forbidden places. This operation is conducted to maintain public order and city’s scenery. We also want to restore the function of sidewalks and green open spaces,” she uttered.
