Ramadan, Parcel Traders Occupying Sidewalk in Cikini

The holy month of Ramadan 1435 Hijri is really used by some people to sell parcel and souvenir in the capital city. No wonder, most of them trade on the sidewalk and cause pedestrian difficult to pass.

As it looks around the Cikini Station, Cikini Urban Village, Menteng, Central Jakarta. Jalan Cikini Raya is crowded by dozens of traders selling a variety of merchandise such as parcel, toys, Ramadan souvenirs. As a result, traffic congestion is unavoidable.

Wahyuni, (40), one of parcel traders admitted trade on the sidewalk is indeed prohibited. But she will only conduct it in Ramadan to gain more profit.

"I know this is prohibited. But, the Ramadan only comes once a year, thus I do it to gain more profit," she reasoned, Saturday (6/28).

Head of Central Jakarta Satpol PP, Yadi Rusmayadi disclosed people who trade on the sidewalk has violated the Bylaw No. 8/2007 on Public Order. But it cannot directly be handled by officers at the municipal level.

"Just ask to sub-district apparatus, considering this is an annual activity. There may be a policy from them," he exclaimed.

Meanwhile, there was no respond from Head of Menteng Sub-District, Bondan Dyah Ekowati, when being confirmed on this matter via cell phone.
