Katar: Stringent Sanctions must Be Enforced to Discipline Citizens on PSBB Rules

So, Jakartans must be disciplined and must be compact in implementing the PSBB rules

Watchdog New Jakarta Observer People's Coalition (Katar) says the PSBB rules in the capital so far were unoptimal as there were still violations. Hence, there should be more stringent supervision and sanctions thus citizens become more obedient.

"We understand why the governor issued the Gubernatorial Regulation number 41/2020 on Imposition of Sanctions for Violating PSBB Rules in Handling COVID-19 in Jakarta, which aims to discipline the citizens in handling and stopping the chain of COVID-19 transmission," expressed Katar Chairperson, Sugiyanto Emik who popularly knows as SGY, Wednesday (5/13).

According to him, it was not solely the responsibility of the government, but all parties including the citizens. Unfortunately, there were still found violations since PSBB was set in early April.

"Despite it is socialized massively, the government must have strict sanctions to make them disciplined thus this pandemic can be ended soon," he explained.

Aside that, the officer in charge should be more wise, prudent and look at the social conditions in the implementation of this regulation.

"Its implementation needs to prioritize persuasive methods or avoid violence," he uttered.

Yet his side assessed the regulation was going well so far.  As stated in Article 4, for example, anyone who does not wear a mask in public facilities may be sanctioned in the form of written warning, social work (cleaning public facilities) and pay a fine of Rp 100,000 to Rp 250,000 per person.

"So, Jakartans must be disciplined and must be compact in implementing the PSBB rules. Avoid violations if you don't want to get sanction, moreover this regulation aims to protect us from the coronavirus," he closed.
