Ancol to Commemorate Virtual Biodiversity Day

Indonesia is a country rich in natural resources. Various types of flora and fauna are domiciled and many are endemic.

This event is a synergy program from the Teens Go Green Indonesia community

According to Bappenas (2016) in the 2015-2020 Indonesian Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (IBSAP) document states, Indonesia is home to 13 percent of mammal species, 8 percent of reptile species, 6 percent of amphibian species, 16 percent of bird species and 10 percent of butterfly species in the world.

Rika Lestari, Dept. Head Corporate Communication of PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol said, with that uniqueness, Ancol also supports the preservation of biodiversity. One of them is supporting the TGG Talks special event to commemorate International Biodiversity Day with the theme "Our Solutions are in Nature: Inspiration from Biodiversity Activists" which falls on Friday (5/15), at 3 PM to 4 PM via the Zoom app.

"This event is a synergy program from the Teens Go Green Indonesia community, which is also one of the coached Ancol communities and the KEHATI Foundation," she expressed, Thursday (5/14).

She explained that Jakarta as the capital and a city located on the coast also had quite a lot of biodiversity. Moreover, flora and fauna live in urban and coastal ecosystems and marine waters.

One of the locations in Jakarta that has quite a lot of biodiversity of wild flora and fauna is the Taman Impian Jaya Ancol tourist area. Ancol also has a function as a conservation organization.

In 2019, Ancol has grown around 2,672 kg of green shells or equivalent to 130,000 green shells on the seabed Ancol. This program has been able to filter about 26,000 liters of seawater every hour or it can be said that every week the green shells can filter about 4,368,000 liters of seawater naturally.

"Seabed Ancol originally covered in mud is slowly beginning to change. Ancol is also active in various opportunities to campaign for biodiversity conservation," she stated.
