Traffic Congestion in Pondok Labu Getting Severe

Although officers have massively done raid against illegal parking and street vendors for two weeks around Pondok Labu area, South Jakarta, it still not yielded optimal results yet. In fact, traffic congestion is getting severe in that area.

Such condition is complained by road users who often pass Pondok Labu where vehicles from and to the border of South Jakarta, with Depok, West Java.

“Traffic congestion around Pondok Labu Market happens since morning until night. In the morning, the distance from Cinere towards Fatmawati Hospital could be taken approximately one hour,” lamented Kamil (40), a car driver, Monday (10/6).

Illegal Parking Raid Netted 514 Vehicles

According to Kamil, besides illegal parking, the existence of street vendors who set up stalls on roadsides and suboptimal traffic management are causing the congestion in that area getting severe.

“Traffic management is suboptimal, causing street vendors back to open their stalls,” he disclosed.

Responding on this matter, Head of Supervision and Control Section for South Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department, AB Nahor, stated that his sub-department is currently still evaluating the result of raids held last month. According to him, the evaluation result will be useful in policy making related to resolving traffic congestion problem around Pondok Labu Market.

“We’re still evaluating. At this time, we’re deploying officers during rush hours there,” he told.
