Today we are stay at home, including my big family

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan together with the wife, Ferry Farhati and four children, as well as mother, Aliyah R. Baswedan, celebrated Eid al-Fitr in his house, Jalan Lebak Bulus II Dalam, South Jakarta, on Sunday (5/24).

They also did Eid prayers led. After that they conducted a virtual silaturahmi with big family via video call.

On This Eid al-Fitr Day, Jakarta is Predicted to Be Partly Sunny

"Today we are stay at home, including my big family. Indeed we always gather at my home every Eid celebration. After Eid prayers, we take our time to greet with family from outside Jakarta via video conference. If we do it consistently, we can stop the chain of COVID-19 outbreak," expressed the governor, Sunday (5/24).

He explained this year's Eid was different because of the custom that associates the moment of the holiday as a meeting with family, neighbors and the wider community. Unfortunately, the current pandemic condition was held not to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

"This condition will be our experience thus we can tell it to our children and grandchildren that we couldn't do Eid prayers in the mosque or in the field due to COVID-19. Therefore we can take the wisdom from this event. Even they can also tell this story to the next generation that I am among those who break the chain of the virus, as I am at home," he explained.

He went on to say that the open house and halalbihalal traditions in his house were cancelled. This governor's statement had also been announced to the neighbors and the community at large in order to curb the virus spread.

"Be responsible families. Stay at home is the same as protecting others. Don't leave home if the situation is not urgent. But if you have to, you must wear a mask and maintain physical distancing. Surely we can stop the virus if this system is applied," he stressed.

He added that this situation brings wisdom thus people are accustomed to utilizing digital technology as daily activities, such as work and meeting.

"I believe this new situation will direct us to make new habits. Hopefully it can make us more efficient, more effective at work and connectivity is maintained," he stated.
