Livestock Health Service Center: Qurban Animals at Cakung RPH are Negative for Anthrax

A number of Animal and Livestock Health Service Center (Pusyankeswannak) officers serving under Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Agency conducted surveillance on the health of qurban animals at the Cakung Slaughterhouse (RPH), East Jakarta.

The testing results on 212 samples of blood smear preparations or PUD are negative for anthrax

Its surveillance included a series of activities such as application of animal welfare in shelters, health examination for qurban animals and also application of health protocols according to KPKP Sub-agency Head's Decree number 44/2020 on Controlling, Selling and Slaughtering of Qurban Animals During COVID-19 Pandemic.

Pusyankeswannak Head Renova Ida Siahaan said that his party examined 1,102 qurban animals' health in 16 slaughterhouses, Cakung.

"Herein we involve 18 officers. Based on the examination results, they (qurban animals) are in good condition. Nevertheless similar action will be intensified up to August 3," she expressed, Thursday (7/9).

She explained, besides being clinical, its examination was also carried out laboratorily in the context of anthrax disease surveillance.

"The testing results on 212 samples of blood smear preparations or PUD are negative for anthrax," she explained.

She added 18 officers were divided into six teams, consisting of veterinarians, laboratory assistants, and livestock nurses. In addition to the RPH, similar action would also done in all qurban animal shelters for soil and PUD sampling.

"Officers will also supervise health protocols at the animal shelters," she asserted.
