Jakarta Government Appreciates Private Parties for Facilitating Cyclists in Jakarta

In realizing the Cycling-Friendly Jakarta program, Jakarta Government gave awards as appreciation to 11 private parties that facilitate cyclists in Jakarta with aim of improving the quality of environment, reducing the use of private vehicles, increasing the use of environmentally friendly vehicles, and promoting healthy lifestyle for Jakartans.

The awards were given directly by Jakarta Vice Governor, Ahmad Riza Patria (Ariza) to the parties who have worked together in optimizing infrastructure for cycling.

He welcomed this activity which initiated by Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub). The series of events have been completed. For information, registration was carried out from September 1-17, 2020. Next, survey and assessment were carried out on September 21, 2020.

Dishub will Give an Award at Cycling Friendly Collaboration Event

"I appreciate Dishub for realizing Cycling-Friendly Jakarta program and providing awards to the private parties who have supported cyclists in Jakarta. Since we are currently focusing on the development of Cycling-Friendly Jakarta program," he stated at Jakarta City Hall, as quoted from Jakarta PPID press release, Tuesday (9/29).

He explained that Jakarta Government has taken number of development strategies for Cycling-Friendly Jakarta program which realized by building an integrated bicycle lane between transportation modes, including Transjakarta Bus, Commuter Line, MRT, LRT, as well as centers of activities and residential areas. Moreover, bicycle parking has been integrated with Transjakarta bus stops, MRT and LRT stations, as well as provision of train and Transjakarta buses that can accommodate cyclists and their bicycles.

"It can encourage the private sectors to provide infrastructure for cyclists. Currently, Jakarta has bicycle lane as long as 63 kilometers, out of 500 kilometers that are planned to be built until 2022," he added.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Dishub Head, Syafrin Liputo said, the awarding of bicycle-friendly buildings was divided into four categories, namely office buildings, residential buildings (apartments), shopping centers, and low-rise buildings for businesses. He also explained that there were 54 private parties which registered until September 17, consisting 37 office buildings, 11 shopping centers, 3 residential buildings, and 3 low-rise buildings for businesses. The assessment was carried out by nine judges who were competent in their fields.

"Actually, this award is given to commemorate motor-vehicles free day which celebrated on September 22, 2020. Hopefully in the future, there will be more buildings that can participate in providing bicycle-friendly facilities," he mentioned.

For information, here are 11 private sectors who received awards from Jakarta Government, namely;

- Office Buildings category: BNI Pejompongan Tower, BPK Jakarta Office, Kompas Gramedia Building, Arkadia Green Park, PT. Sampoerna, Graha Mandiri Taspen (Central Jakarta), and Foreign Affairs Ministry Building.

- Shopping Centers category: Kuningan City Mall and Kota Kasablanka Mall.

- Apartments category: Taman Rasuna Apartment.

- Low-rise Building for Businesses category: LRT Sport Cafe, South Jakarta.

The juries who conduct the assessment were Jakarta Dishub; Jakarta Dishub Parking Management Unit; Jakarta Land Spatial Planning and Build Work (CKTRP) Agency; Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration (Nakertrans), and Energy Agency; Jakarta Transportation Council (DTKJ); Jakarta Transportation Discussion Forum (FDTJ); Bike to Work (B2W); Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP); and National General Accessibility Movement (GAUN).
