Water Body UPK States Its Readiness to Face Rainy Season

Jakarta Environment Agency's Water Body UPK Head, Yayat Supriyatna explained, his side deployed 99 trucks, 92 pick-up cars, and 134 heavy equipment units.

"In this rainy season, we have prepared 4,000 personnel to handle garbage in water channels. Our preparation in this rainy season is quite extra. We have SOPs based on Alert 1, 2, 3 status, start from human resources, heavy equipment, and fleets to transport waste which needed on standby," he informed, Tuesday (9/29).

If Katulampa Reservoir is on Alert 1 status, he continued, his personnel and heavy equipment must be ready to handle garbage in Ciliwung River and West Flood Canal.

There are four locations where personnel deployed to clean up garbage; Kampung Melayu, Manggarai Sluice Gate, Karet Sluice Gate, and Season City Sluice Gate. At each location, his side could operate three heavy equipment.

"Our priority is to ensure water level is not too high, thus garbage can be handled immediately and water can flow optimally," he mentioned.

His side is optimistic to be able in handling waste in water channels when heavy rain falls within one or two days.

"The emplacement capacity is still adequate on Perintis Kemerdekaan. When it is overloaded, we will shift it to Plumpang," he closed.
