Jakarta Strives for Stable Garlic Stock

This year they are proposing an import permit of around 22,000 tons of garlic

The city administration continues to ensure the availability of garlic in order to keep the price of garlic stable.

According to Darjamuni, Agency Head of Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP), garlic is one of the foodstuffs that can cause inflation. It is also important, as it is a food commodity that must be imported for fulfillment.

As for the need for garlic in Jakarta in a year was around 19,000 tons.

"The need for garlic is from PT. Tjipinang Jaya Food Station and other garlic importers. This year they are proposing an import permit of around 22,000 tons of garlic," he said, Thursday (10/1).

He explained the Jakarta Regional Inflation Controlling Team (TPID) was trying to invite the Trade Ministry and related parties to obtain information regarding the availability of garlic in the future.

The information conveyed by the deputy ministry was that the current available stock was still sufficient to meet Jakarta's garlic needs.

"It would be more calming if we had stock from PT. Tjipinang Jaya Food Station. Hopefully the ministry will son issue the Import Approval Letter (SPI) of Garlic by 22,000," he hoped.
