Our target is locals in Pesanggrahan area can implement this program in 2023 and can be replicated to other regions

Jakarta Environmental (LH) Agency is collaborating to develop the Jakarta Recycle Center (JRC) with various stakeholders. Waste sorting is very important to facilitate waste recycling.

Andono Warih, Agency Head of Jakarta LH, the JRC program, which was adapted from the Japanese city of Osaka, is a manifestation of the implementation of the Gubernatorial Regulation number 77/2020 on Waste Management in the RW where waste sorting is carried out by each household.

Until now, he explained, the program had involved approximately 1,335 households in Bukit Mas, Ozone and Taman Alfa Indah complexes, Pesanggrahan Sub-district, South Jakarta.

Every resident received education to make a sorting based on eight categories, namely food scraps, plastics, paper, PET bottles & cups, metal, glass, B3 and residue.

"The officer transports the sorted waste regularly according to a predetermined schedule," he said, Thursday (10/15).

In its execution, he furthered, the sorting of waste by residents had fluctuations in activity. Which was why the intensive assistance and the provision of infrastructure that support waste sorting were needed.

Thereby the city administration saw opportunities for collaboration between government agencies and private enterprises to assist in assisting waste sorting for residents from social to technical aspects.

In the meantime, LH Agency's Integrated Waste Management Unit (UPST) Head Asep Kuswanto added JRC program is an initiative of the Jakarta LH to reduce waste sent to Bantargebang Landfill through waste sorting and recycling.

"Our target is locals in Pesanggrahan area can implement this program in 2023 and can be replicated to other regions," he told.

As for the information, the agency is currently collaborating with PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical to implement the JRC program. The company provides 36,000 pieces of eco-friendly trash bags, waste sorting educational posters, as well as assistance, socialization and evaluation of the success of sorting waste.
