Locals Around Rawa Lindung Reservoir Worry About Flooding

Not much effect. Supposedly, the related unit should first repair the drains alongside Jalan M Saidi

Citizens living on the banks of Rawa Lindung Reservoir at Jalan M Saidi, Petukangan Selatan, Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta, are still dogged by anxiety. They worry flood would hit the village during rainy season, even though normalization process on the land as wide as 1.1 hectares has successfully collected 11,000 cubic meters of mud.

Najib (45), a citizen of RT 04/05 Petukangan Selatan said the cause of flooding in his residential is blockage of the water flow, instead of silting.

Sunter River Normalization Hampered by Land Acquisition

He furthered there is no significant impact of normalization project. This is because some time ago, the street in front of his house was still inundated, even though the rain did not last long. "Not much effect. Supposedly, the related unit should first repair the drains alongside Jalan M Saidi," he expressed.

South Jakarta Mayor, Syamsuddin Noor disclosed that the reservoir expansion plan is still constrained with land acquisition. As a result, the revitalization process in forms of drain construction alongside Jalan Perdata 1 Kompleks Perdata and Jalan M Saidi that boils down to the Rawa Lindung Reservoir and sewer from the reservoir toward Petukangan Utara area, cannot be resumed.

"We propose the land to be expanded about 3,000 square meters for next year. But there has been no decision," he stated, Monday (10/27).

He added the normalization of water hyacinth and mud is already done. While revitalization around the reservoir will immediately be realized. "Its outlet is still being restyled before rainy season. We want water in the drain can flow smoothly," he uttered.
