The 2015 UMP Determination Most Likely Miss Schedule

The determination of the 2015 Jakarta Province Minimum Wage would most likely miss schedule due to there is still no agreement reached until now between the labors, entrepreneurs, and government on the amount of standard cost of living (KHL). As previously reported, based on KHL survey in August, September, and October, the amount of KHL agreed was Rp 2.3 million. But after a meeting between the labors and Jakarta Provincial Government held on Thursday (10/23), Acting Jakarta Governor Basuki T Purnama gave instruction to increase the quality of KHL’s components in accordance to the labors’ demand.
“There is potential the (KHL) determination miss schedule. There has been no agreement reached yet. We’ll discuss it again today,” stated Priyono, Thursday (10/30).
Workers Besiege City Hall, Demanding UMP RaiseAccording to Priyono, KHL determination is not easy because it must accommodate three elements in the Wage Council and also pays attention to economic growth, inflation rate, productivity, as well as business sector abilities.
As for the three KHL components which have not been agreed their amount are room rent, transportation, and PAM tap water bill. Especially for PAM tap water bill, its amount has been increased from initially Rp 7,160 for 2,000 liters becomes Rp 39,000. However, the labors requested for the increase to reach Rp 54,000.
Jakarta Wage Council member Sarman Simanjorang also admitted that the determination of the 2015 UMP is potentially late.
“It is potentially late. We’re just about to discuss it again. If there was still no agreement reached, the determination could be longer. Moreover, this is already end of October,” he said.
For information, KHL in 2012 was Rp 1,401,000 with UMP Rp 1,529,150, then Rp 1,987,789 with UMP Rp 2,200,000 in 2013, and Rp 2,299,860 with UMP Rp 2,441,301 in 2014. For 2015, UMP is predicted to increase 10 percent from this year.
